Eggs: Healthy or Unhealthy?

Eggs: to eat or not to eat? It has always been the age-old question for millions of people. And today, people are simply obsessed with keeping a healthy diet. They always make sure that everything in their list is healthy.

So, what is the verdict? Are eggs bad for your health? Or are they healthy? On recent studies, eggs have redeemed themselves from totally unhealthy to something much more beneficial than its synonym with a bad connotation: cholesterol.

The Good Things

Can Lower Blood Pressure

This is placed on top because people have always stayed away from eggs thinking that these can cause their blood pressures to shoot up. It has been proven that the protein in eggs act like an ACE (angiotensin-converting-enzyme) inhibitor, which is a type of hypertension medicine. Reducing lower blood pressure reduces the risk for heart attacks.

Lessens Evening Cravings for Food

High proteins in egg lessen your cravings for food in evenings. Eating food with high protein just like eggs during breakfast can get rid of your appetite and cravings in early evenings. So, for those with unsatisfied appetites, eggs can just be for you.

Improve Reflexes

Several recent studies have proven that an amino acid called tyrosine can help you make quick responses. This amino acid helps you make better decisions when there is a need to make decisions in a short span of time.

Eggs are filled with antioxidants, which can actually keep people away from cancer and heart diseases. Cooking eggs does cut down their antioxidants, but the remaining antioxidants can still be enough for the body.

Eggs for the Eyes

Because of the presence of carotenoids in eggs, like lutein and zeaxanthin, eggs can prevent macular degeneration.

Eggs for Muscle Repair

Eggs are the best muscle repair food after workout since the body easily absorbs the protein in eggs.

Other Notable Egg Benefits

  • fight off the risks of developing cataracts
  • the presence of choline makes eggs good for the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and the brain.
  • Eggs are good for the nails and hair because of its high sulphur content and the presence of vitamins and minerals.

A Note

Eggs are considered to be high in cholesterol. Like any other food, too much consumption of eggs can lead to risks rather than taking advantage of their health benefits. It is better if eggs are eaten in moderation.

So, are eggs healthy or unhealthy? You decide. Eggs like all foods such as healthy fish, they can give us the best nutrition if consumed properly. An egg per meal may not be the best option. Be in control.
